Fund performance was positive during the quarter and the fund rose almost 20% in SEK. The positive trend in the equity market continued during Q1. Although inflation appears to be more persistent than expected at the outset of the year, the economy continues to show strength and it appears that a recession has been avoided. The market continues to price in rate cuts during H2 2024.

Technology and the Digitalization theme posted strength driven by AI, and companies that can benefit from this have posted strong performance.

Companies such as Nvidia, TSMC, ASML and Broadcom, which all benefit from the progress within AI, were among the contributors to fund returns. In addition, the holding in ReposiTrak rose sharply on the back of a strong momentum to orders. Holdings within streaming, such as Spotify, Netflix and Storytel, performed well due to strong user growth and higher profitability.

During the quarter the fund added Meta, Comcast and several smaller positions in a number of software companies. The Japanese IT consultancy company Nomura Research Institute was also added, while the fund divested holdings in Altus, Etsy and Oracle.

Surgical Science had a negative impact on returns after the company did not meet expectations in its recent quarterly report due to weak demand in several of their end markets. Adobe also lagged after performing strongly in 2023 due to concerns about the competition situation within AI following the company’s quarterly report.

As we saw during the previous quarters this year, companies within the Digitalization theme continue to be affected by the rapid developments within AI. Companies within different sectors are affected to varying degrees, although we expect those that can demonstrate benefits within their own AI strategies to succeed.
